The first hour will focus on the first 50 years andtrace the journey ofthe sakadas or plantation laborers from thePhilippines to Hawaii. Itwill highlight their plantation lifestyle,the struggles in Hawaiithrough labor disputes and the loneliness ofbeing away from theirhomeland, to finally finding a place and a homein Hawaii.
The second hour continues with the next 50 years andthe future ofHawaii Filipinos. In this hour we feature the accomplishments andachievements of Filipinos in business, politics,labor, entertainmentand many contributions Filipinos in Hawaii have inour islandcommunity. The documentary will also look at some ofthe issuesthat still face the 3rd largest ethnic group in ourState. Finally, we look to the future of Hawaii Filipinos and therole theywill play in the next one hundred years.
Since last summer we have had a team of volunteerswho began the processof researching and locating photos and film clipsdating back to theearly 1900s. Our team of writers, historiansand producers consistof:
