The Filipino Centennial Celebration Commission invites the people of Hawaii, especially the Filipino community, to the unveiling of the Filipino centennial logo. The evening event will also formally kick-off preparations for the 2006 centennial celebration.
A logo design contest is currently ongoing. Deadline for submission of entries is April 15, 2004. According to the Logo Committee, prizes will be awarded to the top three entries -- $500, first prize; $300, second prize, and $100, third prize. All contestants will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Filipino Centennial Celebration Commission. All logo entries will also be exhibited during this event.
A donation of $35 per person is appreciated. Sponsors ($1,000 each) for this event are also welcome. A sponsor will be given a table of ten (10) and will be recognized throughout the program.
For tax-deductible donations, make checks payable to Hawaii Filipino Centennial Committee.
Plans will be bared even as the community is enjoined to contact the Filipino Centennial Celebration Commission to ensure a coordinated commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of the arrival of the Filipinos in Hawaii.
The Filipino centennial celebration is a historic event for the entire Filipino community in Hawaii, the Aloha State, and the global community -- particularly the US mainland and the Philippines, says Elias Beniga, Commission chair. The Commission will be working closely with various ethno-geographic, social, business, and professional organizations in Hawaii and out of state.
Members of the Filipino Centennial Celebration Commission, appointed by then Governor Benjamin Cayetano in June 2002, will also be formally introduced to the community during the kick-off dinner.
